‘Festival of Light’, Ar. Chitra Tibrewal, Gupta’s Associated Architects Pvt. Ltd.

When we think of festivals, we think of lighting celebration, varieties of food and also social gathering. For Christians, it’s X-Mas. For Muslims, it’s Ramzan and for Hindu’s – Diwali. On this festival, we light our houses, blast crackers and express our enthusiasm and excitement.

In each festival, (especially in Diwali), we celebrate good over evil. Good is light and evil is darkness. We need light always; but there is also a scientific explanation for this. During winter months, lot of insects multiply and destroy crops. When you light lamps in millions they come fall in it. You don’t need to kill them. It is the innate nature of the insects that they are attracted to light and die. Other than that, it gives warmth during the cold winter. It gives opportunity to gather together, think together and act together.

In South India, one month after Diwali – on Kartik Poornima (full moon day) every town and village do the bonfires with millions of lamps relighted in houses and temples. These lamps are made up of recyclable materials like clay. The oil used for those lamps is special oil (LUPPA ENNE) with some medicinal properties.

Let us enjoy Diwali in its purest form by lighting lamps, offering prayers and by making this world a better place for you, me and for the entire universe.

Happy Diwali.
